In true holiday fashion I am already behind…this was meant to go out Thursday the 5th! December will be a light month (har-har, Christmas lights, I’m so funny!) but there will still be content to enjoy:
December Schedule
- December 12th: Monthly Short Story
- December 19th: Writing Wild #1 – The origin of the idea behind The Wildlands
- December 26th: THE DIRT #5 – Story Tiller’s monthly newsletter
What is Writing Wild?
Writing Wild is an expansion of the idea behind the ISBW project (I Should Be Writing), which features in every issue of THE DIRT. Where ISBW is focused on the craft and business of writing, Writing Wild is focused on the vision and lore of writing. Specifically, Writing Wild will be about writing The Wildlands series.
Ever since Story Tiller ‘went public’ it has been my desire to share at least some portion of my writing journey. That desire is driven in no small part by my hope other writers can be inspired or educated. I don’t profess to be an expert (I’m not) and I am certainly not a celebrity (but my dogs think I am). ISBW is something I hope to expand as time goes on, and Writing Wild is the first step in that journey!
Initially, Writing Wild will be a monthly column that is much larger and deeper than the typical ISBW article. It will be as much a lore dive into the world of The Wildlands as it will be an exploration of how that lore came into existence (from an authorial perspective). One of the most common (and delightful!) questions I get asked is, “Where did the idea for this come from?” My hope is that Writing Wild will be an interesting read for writers and readers.
Writing Wild #1 will feature the origin of The Wildlands idea!
Not surprisingly, the most common variation of the aforementioned question refers to the entire book: how did I come up with this book idea at all? When did I realize it was a book idea, not a short story or little dream? I hope to answer those kinds of questions and more on the 19th!
In the future, my goal is to announce the topic of Writing Wild with each monthly schedule to give the community time to submit questions. If you ever want to know about a specific aspect of writing – be it craft, business, or vision – hit up the About the Author page and send me your question(s)!
Happy Holidays from Story Tiller Publishing!

(Y’know, my dogs have the exact same look when I put a Santa hat on them!)
